Prasanth Varma, a notable Indian film director and screenwriter in Telugu cinema, has made a significant impact with his diverse filmography. Commencing his journey in 2011 with the short film “Deenamma Jeevitham,” Varma later delved into directing advertisement films and notable short films like “A Silent Melody” (2014) and “Dialogue in the Dark” (2017). In 2015, he ventured into the web series arena with “Not Out,” a five-episode series featuring Brian Lara.

In an interview with Idlebrain.com, Varma acknowledged the influential figures in his career, citing Singeetam Srinivasa Rao, Christopher Nolan, K. Viswanath, and Mani Ratnam as his major inspirations.

Varma’s feature film directorial debut was “Awe” (2018), a psychological cross-genre film that garnered critical acclaim. Although “That Is Mahalakshmi” was initially intended as his debut, production issues and creative differences led to delays. In 2017, Tamannaah was announced to star in the Telugu version, but the film is yet to be released as of 2024.

Following “Awe,” Varma continued to impress with “Kalki” (2019), adapting Saitej Desharaj’s original web-series story into a feature film format. His third release, “Zombie Reddy” (2021), marked Tollywood’s first zombie film and received positive reviews, becoming a box office success.

In May 2021, Varma announced his next project, “Hanu-Man,” promoted as the first Telugu superhero film. Subsequently, on March 23, 2022, he revealed another project titled “Adhira,” featuring D.V.V. Danayya’s son, Kalyan Dasari. Both “Adhira” and “Hanu Man” are envisioned to be part of Varma’s superhero cinematic universe.
