While horror thrillers typically don’t rake in massive profits, “Shaitaan,” led by Ajay Devgn, has defied expectations. Initially flying under the radar, the film emerged as a dark horse, garnering significant attention after an impressive trailer release. Leveraging Ajay Devgn’s widespread popularity and a gripping trailer, “Shaitaan” enjoyed a robust opening weekend, amassing around 54 crores nett.
The film’s success continued through the weekdays, with its second Friday surpassing the opening day collections of Sidharth Malhotra’s “Yodha.” Such dominance persisted even into its third weekend, with “Shaitaan” maintaining its stronghold and earning 5 crores nett on its third Friday alone, solidifying its status as a super hit.
Current estimates suggest “Shaitaan” has amassed close to 130 crores net in India, aiming for a domestic finish of 150 crores net. Worldwide, the film is anticipated to surpass the 200 crores gross mark by the end of its theatrical run.
With no major competitors until the release of Akshay Kumar’s “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan” and another Ajay Devgn starrer “Maidaan,” “Shaitaan” is poised to enjoy a prolonged spell at the box office. Featuring performances by Madhavan, Jyothika, and Janki Bodiwala, the film was directed by Vikas Bahl and produced by Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, Kumar Mangat Pathak, and Abhishek Pathak.
