The much-anticipated war biopic Amaran, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi, has shattered box office records in Tamil Nadu on its release day, earning an impressive ₹21 crore net in India, marking the highest-ever opening for a Sivakarthikeyan film. Based on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan, the film has not only been critically lauded but has also seen massive box office success, largely due to strong reviews and Diwali buzz.
According to Sacnilk, Amaran earned ₹21.25 crore net in India on its opening day, with an impressive ₹15 crore gross from Tamil Nadu alone. This debut surpasses Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2, which earned ₹13 crore gross in Tamil Nadu. Only two films have performed better in the state this year—Vijay’s GOAT and Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan.
Despite Diwali being a less dominant holiday for Tamil and Telugu film releases, Amaran’s tremendous box office reception signals widespread audience approval. Reports suggest that positive word of mouth could propel the movie’s earnings even higher over the weekend. With international box office figures expected soon, Amaran is anticipated to cross ₹100 crore gross within the first week, possibly by the weekend if the current momentum continues.
