The box office race between Amaran and Kanguva has taken an unexpected turn, with Amaran maintaining a steady winning streak while Kanguva struggles to make an impact. From the very first day, Kanguva failed to generate the expected momentum, and its collections fell short of expectations. This allowed Amaran to capitalize on its strong performance, continuing its dominance even into its third weekend.
By its 19th day, Amaran had crossed the ₹300 crore mark globally, solidifying its success. In stark contrast, Kanguva struggled on its fifth day, registering disappointing numbers, even lower than Amaran’s 19th-day collections. This discrepancy was visible across all major regions, including Tamil Nadu, the Telugu states, and the rest of India, where Amaran’s collections on its 19th day were 20% higher than Kanguva’s fifth-day figures.
As Amaran continues to build momentum, heading confidently towards the ₹350 crore mark, Kanguva seems to be nearing the end of its theatrical run. The film’s diminishing returns have raised questions about its initial struggles and what went wrong. The contrasting performances of the two films highlight the unpredictable nature of the box office—while Amaran benefits from strong word-of-mouth and sustained audience interest, Kanguva is still trying to recover from its underwhelming start.
