Karan Johar is once again in the spotlight, this time due to reports that Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Limited is in talks to acquire a stake in Dharma Productions. This potential partnership arises amid a decline in profits for the production house over recent years. While Dharma Productions continues to generate substantial revenue, its profit margins have reportedly dropped by nearly 50%.
Dharma Productions has traditionally relied on strong distribution networks and pre- and post-release deals for revenue. However, its recent release, Jigra, starring Alia Bhatt, turned out to be a major box office failure, resulting in significant losses for Johar’s company.
A collaboration with Reliance could help Dharma Productions by enhancing its distribution capabilities and creating new revenue streams. It remains to be seen how this partnership will unfold.
