This Friday, February 21, two highly anticipated medium-budget Kollywood films are set to battle it out in theaters—Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dragon and Dhanush’s directorial NEEK. As per early box office trends, Dragon has taken the lead in advance bookings over NEEK.
A Clash Born Out of Postponements
Originally, NEEK was scheduled for release on February 7, while Dragon was set for February 14. However, due to the postponement of Ajith’s Vidaamuyarchi, both films had to shift their release dates, leading to this unexpected clash.
Advance Bookings: Dragon Takes the Lead
With advance bookings now open, Dragon, a romantic comedy directed by Pradeep Ranganathan, is witnessing a strong start at the box office. The film is on track for an impressive opening, outpacing NEEK in initial ticket sales. That said, Dhanush’s NEEK has also started decently, and both films have the potential to perform well if they receive positive word of mouth.
Telugu Release & Music Sensation
Both films are also set to release in Telugu, with trade analysts expecting them to do well in the market. Dragon has been titled Return of the Dragon in Telugu and features Anupama Parameswaran and Kayadu Lohar as the female leads. Meanwhile, NEEK has already gained attention for its music, with the “Golden Sparrow” song becoming a chartbuster.
While Dragon currently leads in bookings, the ultimate winner will be determined by audience reception and word of mouth. With two promising films hitting the screens, Kollywood fans are in for an exciting weekend!
