When Puri Jagannadh, the maverick filmmaker, announced his collaboration with Ram Pothineni for the sequel to ‘iSmart Shankar’ titled ‘Double iSmart,’ expectations skyrocketed. Premiering worldwide on August 15, the movie stars Sanjay Dutt and Kavya Thapar in lead roles. Ram Pothineni, who has gained popularity with Hindi audiences through his dubbed films on streaming platforms, enjoys a considerable fan base. Following his first bilingual film ‘The Warriorr,’ his latest movie has been released in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.
Double iSmart, featuring Sanjay Dutt and Ram Pothineni, faces stiff competition amidst other major releases. Shot extensively in Thailand, Hyderabad, and Mumbai, the film reportedly picks up from where the original ‘iSmart Shankar’ left off. Sanjay Dutt joins the cast as the ‘Big Bull,’ adding to the ensemble reprising their characters from the first film.
Ram Pothineni expressed his excitement about working with Puri Jagannadh again, calling ‘Double iSmart’ one of his best films to date. Puri Jagannadh, who had previously bounced back from flops with the success of ‘iSmart Shankar’ and then stumbled with ‘Liger’ starring Vijay Deverakonda, aims to recreate the magic of his earlier collaboration with Ram Pothineni and co-producer Charmme Kaur.
