Vijayadashami, widely celebrated as Dussehra or Dasara, commemorates Lord Rama’s victory over the demon king Ravana and Goddess Durga’s conquest over the buffalo demon Mahishasura. In Nepal, this festival is known as Dashain and holds similar significance.
On Vijayadashami, several important rituals are performed, including Shami Puja, Aparajita Puja, and Seema Avalanghan. According to Hindu tradition, these rituals are best conducted during the Aparahna (afternoon) period.
This year, Vijayadashami will be celebrated on Saturday, October 12, 2024. The auspicious Vijay Muhurat for performing the rituals is from 2:22 PM to 3:09 PM, lasting for 47 minutes. Notably, in Bengal, Vijayadashami will be observed a day later, on Sunday, October 13, 2024.
For Bengal’s Vijayadashami, the Aparahna Puja Time is scheduled from 1:35 PM to 3:56 PM, lasting 2 hours and 21 minutes. The Dashami Tithi will begin at 10:58 AM on October 12 and end at 9:08 AM on October 13, 2024. Additionally, the Shravana Nakshatra will commence at 5:25 AM on October 12 and conclude at 4:27 AM on October 13.
As we celebrate this auspicious occasion, here are some heartfelt wishes to share:
