Eid-Ul-Fitr To Be Celebrated In India On Thursday

Since the moon was not visible this evening, the nation will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, which celebrates the end of the month-long fast of Ramadan, on Thursday.

On Wednesday, however, Kerala, Leh, and Kargil will all celebrate Eid.

Imam Mufti Mukarram Ahmad of Delhi’s Fatehpuri Masjid told PTI that the mosque’s Ruet-e-Hilal Committee had received information from several sources indicating that the moon had not been spotted.

As a result, he added, India would celebrate Eid on Thursday and mark the 30th day of Ramadan on Wednesday.

There have been no reports of sightings of the Shawwal moon, according to Syed Ahmed Bukhari, the former imam of Shahi Jama Masjid.

Contacts were made in different parts of India – Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal and Bihar, but the moon was not sighted anywhere,” he said.

“Eid will be celebrated on Thursday, April 11,” Mr Bukhari said.

The Markazi Chand Committee of Lucknow has also announced that as the moon has not been seen this evening, Eid would be observed on April 11.

The date of Eid-ul-Fitr varies worldwide and is based on the crescent moon sighting, which is believed to mark the beginning of the Shawwal month in the lunar Islamic calendar.
