Bathukamma, the festival of life in Telangana, is a grand celebration that symbolizes the state’s rich traditions and culture. This unique festival honors the goddess in the form of flowers, representing the deep connection between nature and spirituality. Bathukamma serves as a symbol of Telangana’s cultural heritage and way of life. For nine days, every street in Telangana is filled with vibrant celebrations. The festivities begin with “Engili Puvvula Bathukamma” on the first day and conclude with “Saddula Bathukamma” on the ninth day.
This year, Bathukamma festivities started on octobar 2. So far, the first three days have been celebrated, which include Engili Puvvula Bathukamma, Atukula Bathukamma, and Muddapappu Bathukamma. Today, on the fourth day, “Nanabiyyam Bathukamma” is celebrated. On this day, flowers like Thangedu and Gunugu are used to create a four-tier Bathukamma, with a Gauramma idol placed at the top. Soaked rice (Nanabiyyam) is offered as a delicacy, with rice balls made by mixing it with jaggery or sugar.
