After a two-month dry spell, theatres in the Telugu states are seeing a resurgence with the release of three new films. The most anticipated of these is “Gangs of Godavari,” starring Vishwak Sen and directed by Krishna Chaitanya, which hit the screens on May 31.
Featuring a prominent star cast and backed by the major production house Sithara Entertainment, “Gangs of Godavari” had a strong opening at the box office. It garnered a share of around Rs. 3-3.5 crore on its first day, recovering 40% of its stakes. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the movie maintained a solid performance over the weekend.
On Saturday, the film earned approximately Rs. 1.5-1.6 crore, and on Sunday, it collected around Rs. 1.9 crore. Overall, “Gangs of Godavari” achieved a first-weekend share of about Rs. 6.6 crore, with an 80% recovery. Given the below-par performance of the other two releases, trade analysts predict that “Gangs of Godavari” will continue its decent run and break even at the box office soon.
The film features Neha Shetty and Anjali as the female leads, with music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
