Geethanjali Malli Vachindhi, the sequel to the hit film Geethanjali, hit theaters recently, but it failed to replicate the success of its predecessor. Despite retaining much of the original cast, the film fell short of expectations at the box office. However, the filmmakers are hoping to find a new audience as the film is set to be released on an OTT platform.
Geethanjali Malli Vachindhi will premiere on Aha Video on May 8th, just three weeks after its theatrical release. This quick turnaround has been announced on the OTT platform’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, with a post that reads, “Akka nv malli vachavaaa ..! Sare Aha lo Kaluddam.”
The sequel’s release comes nearly a decade after the original film. The promotional content leading up to its release failed to generate significant excitement among audiences, which could be one reason for its poor box office performance. However, some films that struggle in theaters find new life on OTT platforms, and Geethanjali Malli Vachindhi may have a chance to succeed in this new format. It might appeal to viewers looking for fresh content, especially since the current theatrical offerings are limited.
Directed by Shiva Thurlapati, the film stars Anjali and Srinivasa Reddy in lead roles. Kona Venkat, who worked on the original Geethanjali, contributed to the screenplay for this sequel. With the film’s upcoming OTT premiere, viewers will soon have the chance to watch and decide whether it meets or exceeds their expectations.
