Varalaxmi, born on March 5, 1985, in Bangalore, Karnataka, India, is the daughter of actor Sarathkumar and Chaya. Her stepmother is renowned actress Raadhika. She pursued her schooling at St. Michael’s Academy in Chennai and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from Hindustan Arts and Science College, Chennai. Additionally, she holds a Masters in Business Management from the University of Edinburgh. Prior to embarking on her acting career, Varalaxmi refined her craft at Anupam Kher’s Acting School in Mumbai.

Her breakthrough came with Vignesh Shivan’s romantic drama “Podaa Podi” (2012), where she portrayed a London-based dancer alongside Silambarasan. Despite the film’s extended production period, it received critical acclaim upon release. Varalaxmi’s performance was particularly praised, with critics highlighting her natural charm and talent. Following this, she worked on Sundar C’s “Madha Gaja Raja,” although the film remained unreleased due to financial issues.
