Dussehra, one of the most important festivals in Hindu culture, is celebrated with immense joy and devotion at the end of Navratri. The festival usually falls on the tenth day of the Hindu month Ashvin, aligning with September or October in the Gregorian calendar. Known by different names such as Dasara, Dashain, and Vijayadashami, this year’s Dussehra falls on October 12, 2024.
The festival holds a special place in regions like Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Bihar, Tripura, and Assam. Dussehra is celebrated across India and Nepal, marking different victories of good over evil. In southern, eastern, northeastern, and some northern parts of India, Vijayadashami concludes the Durga Puja, symbolizing Goddess Durga’s victory over Mahishasura, the buffalo demon. On this day, idols of Durga, along with Saraswati, Lakshmi, Ganesh, and Kartik, are immersed in water bodies after processions.
In northern, central, and western regions, Dussehra commemorates Lord Rama’s victory over the demon king Ravana, symbolizing the triumph of righteousness.
To add a special touch to your celebrations, here’s a collection of heartfelt wishes, quotes, and messages to share with loved ones this Dussehra.
