Significance of Ram Navami
Ram Navami is an auspicious festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Rama. Lord Rama was born in the Treta Yuga in Ayodhya to King Dasharatha and Queen Kaushalya. Lord Rama is regarded as Maryada Purushottam, the epitome of virtue, righteousness, and dharma (duty).
Hindus celebrate by doing fast,prayers. It helps them to refresh their positive energy.
Rituals and Traditions
Ram Navami is observed with various customs. Some of them are ?
1. Fasting (Vrat)
Many devotees do a Ram Navami fast. There are two types of fast which can be either a complete fast (without food and water) or a partial fast (fruits and milk are allowed). The fast is broken after performing the puja and consuming prasadam.
2. Rama Navami Puja
The Madhyahna Muhurat (midday) is considered the most auspicious time for performing the puja. It is believed that Ram ji was born at that time.
3.Ratha Yatra (Chariot Processions)
Rama Ratha Yatras are made , where idols of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, and Hanuman are taken in a grand procession on the auspicious day. People also chant Jai Sree Ram.
Bhog (offering) and prasad are offered:
Panakam (jaggery and cardamom-infused drink)
Kosambari (moong dal salad)
Sabudana Khichdi (tapioca-based dish for fasting)
Panchamrit
Sweets like Peda and Halwa
