India to Celebrate 76th Republic Day with Grand Parade and Cultural Festivities

On January 26, 2025, India will celebrate its 76th Republic Day, commemorating 75 years since becoming a Republic. While India gained independence on August 15, 1947, it wasn’t until January 26, 1950, that the nation adopted its constitution, thanks to founding figures like Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and K.M. Munshi. This year’s celebrations will highlight “Jan Bhagidari” (citizen participation) with a special focus on the 75th anniversary of the constitution’s enactment.

Chief Guest and Parade Theme

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will be the chief guest, gracing the parade alongside a 160-member marching contingent and a 190-member band from Indonesia. Indian Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh shared that this year’s theme, “Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas” (Golden India: Heritage and Development), will be showcased through 31 tableaux representing various states, union territories, and central government ministries.

Parade Highlights

The parade will commence with Prime Minister Narendra Modi laying a wreath at the National War Memorial. Two special tableaux will celebrate 75 years of the Indian Constitution. Over 10,000 special guests, including disaster relief workers, handloom artisans, tribal beneficiaries, and Paralympians, will attend the event.

Digital Access and Facilities

The ‘Rashtraparv Portal’ and a dedicated mobile app have been launched to facilitate ticket booking, seating, and parking arrangements for the Republic Day events. Delhi Metro will provide free rides for ticket holders and invitees, with services starting early at 4 am. Ferry services from designated parking areas will operate between 6:00 am and 8:30 am. Additional facilities include wheelchair assistance by NCC volunteers and increased toilet availability.

Additional Events

For those unable to attend the Republic Day parade, the Beating Retreat ceremony on January 29 will feature traditional Indian tunes. The Bharat Parv festival at Red Fort from January 26-31 will showcase cultural performances, cuisine, and crafts. Over 5,000 artists will perform in 45 traditional dance forms. Special student initiatives, including an All-India School Band competition, will culminate in a performance at the parade by a girls’ team.
