Actor-couple Suriya and Jyotika, along with their two children, have embraced a new chapter in Mumbai. While Jyotika is gearing up for the release of her Netflix series Dabba Cartel, she recently opened up about their family life and parenting philosophy in an interview with Screen.
Superstardom Stays Outside, Parenting Comes First
Discussing how they manage their roles as parents while being celebrated stars, Jyotika shared, “When we step into our home, superstardom is left at the door. At home, we are simply parents to our children. Our biggest focus is on their well-being, especially their meals. Every morning, the first dabba (tiffin box) leaves at 6 AM for school, while the younger one’s food is packed and sent at noon. Most of our discussions revolve around what they eat and how we prepare their meals. So at home, we are just parents, nothing more.”
No Regrets About Missing Out on Bollywood Roles
Reflecting on her career, Jyotika spoke about her journey in the South Indian film industry and her return to Hindi cinema. “I have no regrets about not doing more Bollywood films. My time in the South was incredibly fulfilling, and I had the opportunity to play some of my best roles there. I don’t think I would have gotten such impactful roles in Hindi cinema at that time. I took a break at 28 after getting married and returned to films at 35. Tamil cinema welcomed me with strong protagonist roles, and now, stepping into Hindi films again, I feel the same warmth.”
Jyotika recently marked her Bollywood comeback with Shaitaan and was also seen in Srikanth, alongside Rajkummar Rao.
Dabba Cartel: A Unique Story
Her upcoming web series, Dabba Cartel, boasts a stellar cast, including Shabana Azmi, Gajraj Rao, Nimisha Sajayan, Shalini Pandey, Anjali Anand, Sai Tamhankar, Jisshu Sengupta, Lillete Dubey, and Bhupendra Singh Jadawat. The show follows a group of ordinary women who run a tiffin service in Mumbai while secretly using it as a front for smuggling drugs.
Dabba Cartel is set to premiere on Netflix on February 28, promising a gripping narrative that blends crime and drama with compelling performances.
