Mythri Movie Makers has recently acquired the Nizam rights for the highly anticipated film Kanguva, and initially, the production company promised a grand, record-breaking release, including exclusive shows and a special highlight at the pre-release event. However, the situation has become complicated, and securing a significant number of screens for the film is now in question.
The competition is fierce, with the ongoing success of Diwali releases still attracting large audiences, alongside Matka, which is set to release on the same day as Kanguva. This fierce competition has already placed strain on the availability of screens for the film.
Moreover, the real hurdle seems to be disagreements over profit-sharing terms between Mythri Movie Makers and key exhibitors. Reports suggest that Mythri Movies has sought a revision in the percentage split with exhibitors, a proposal that has not been well received. Notably, major distribution players like Asian Cinemas and PVR have expressed reluctance to accept these revised terms. As a result, Kanguva’s bookings have not yet opened, with ongoing negotiations in progress to resolve these conflicts.
This issue is not unique to Kanguva. Mythri Movies has faced similar distribution challenges in the Nizam region with past releases as well, raising concerns about their ability to secure favorable terms for future projects. It remains to be seen if the parties can reach a consensus in time for the movie’s release, ensuring that Kanguva makes a smooth debut in the region.
