The Kannada film industry is in mourning after the sudden death of director Deepak Aras, best known for Manasology (2012) and Sugar Factory (2023). He passed away on October 17, 2024, at the age of 42 due to complications from kidney failure. Despite ongoing treatment and dialysis, Deepak succumbed to his illness at a private hospital in RR Nagar, Bengaluru.
Deepak Aras, the elder brother of former Kannada actress Amulya, had been battling kidney issues for some time. His death has left the industry and his family in deep shock. Amulya shared the heartbreaking news on her Instagram story and X (formerly Twitter), stating, “My dearest brother Deepanna has left us this morning at 6 AM, we are in deep pain losing you at this young age. You live in us forever.”

Deepak made his directorial debut with Manasology, a romantic drama, but it was his 2023 comedy entertainer, Sugar Factory, that truly placed him in the spotlight. Featuring Darling Krishna, the film was praised for its fun take on modern pub culture and marked Deepak’s return to filmmaking after a decade-long hiatus.
Deepak Aras is survived by his wife, two children, and a large extended family. His last rites were performed in Bengaluru, as announced by his sister Amulya.
