KL Rahul Personal Life:
Born on April 18, 1992, in Bangalore, Karnataka, Kannanur Lokesh Rahul is the son of K. N. Lokesh and Rajeshwari. His father, Lokesh, a professor and former director at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) in Mangalore, hails from Kannanur in Mangalore. Rajeshwari, his mother, is a professor at Mangalore University. Interestingly, Lokesh, an admirer of cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, intended to name his son after Gavaskar’s son but mistakenly chose the name Rahul, thinking it belonged to Rohan Gavaskar. Rahul’s mother tongue is Kannada.
Rahul spent his formative years in Mangalore, attending NITK English Medium School for his high school education and St. Aloysius College for pre-university studies. He commenced cricket training at the age of 10 and began playing matches for both Bangalore United Cricket Club and his Mangalore-based club by the age of 12. At 18, he relocated to Bangalore to enroll at Jain University while simultaneously pursuing his cricket career.
On January 23, 2023, Rahul tied the knot with his longtime partner, Indian actress Athiya Shetty, the daughter of actor Suniel Shetty, following a courtship of over three years.
Lucknow Super Giants (2022–present)
Ahead of the 2022 season, Rahul bid farewell to the Punjab Kings and was enlisted by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as their captain for a hefty sum of INR 17 crore, placing him on par with Virat Kohli as the joint highest-paid cricketer in the IPL.
On April 16, 2022, Rahul showcased his prowess by smashing his maiden century for Lucknow, scoring an unbeaten 103 runs off 60 balls against Mumbai. Just eight days later, he replicated this feat with another stellar century (103* off 62) against the same opponent.
Under Rahul’s leadership, LSG made a commendable debut in the IPL playoffs but fell short against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Eliminator. Rahul emerged as the top scorer for his team, amassing 616 runs at an impressive average of 51.33 and notching up two centuries during the season.
Rahul retained his role as captain for the Lucknow Super Giants in the 2023 season. However, his campaign was cut short midway due to an injury sustained while fielding in a match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
