Mohanlal’s highly anticipated action thriller L2: Empuraan had a record-breaking start with exceptional advance bookings and a phenomenal opening day. The film dominated the Eid weekend, continuing its strong momentum well beyond the festive holidays.
However, as it entered its second weekend, Empuraan has started to lose steam. Despite high expectations of a significant jump in collections over the weekend, the film hasn’t been able to maintain its early trend.
After 9 days, L2: Empuraan has managed to collect over ₹240 crore gross worldwide. By the end of today, the film is expected to touch the ₹250 crore mark. While this is still an impressive number, it falls short of the massive benchmark initially anticipated.
With such a strong opening and festival advantage, industry experts had expected Empuraan to be inching close to ₹300 crore gross by the end of its second weekend. But given the current box office trend, achieving that milestone now seems unlikely.
The slowdown is evident not just in India but also in overseas markets, where the film is witnessing a below-average performance during the second weekend.
Despite the dip, Empuraan remains a major release of the year, but it needs a strong weekday hold or a positive third weekend push to get back on track.
