Maharaja, starring Vijay Sethupathi, has emerged as one of Kollywood’s biggest hits this year, bringing much-needed relief to the actor after a challenging phase in recent years. Following its massive success in India, the makers decided to release the film in China, where it debuted on nearly 40,000 screens and has been met with an overwhelming response.
The film saw a significant jump in collections on Day 2, with premiere earnings at $640K, Day 1 generating nearly $540K, and Day 2 surging to $1.1 million. This marks almost a doubling of the opening day figures. The total gross collections for the first two days now exceed ₹19 crores, and Day 3 has also started on a strong note, fueled by positive word-of-mouth.
With its stellar performance, Maharaja has strong potential to cross ₹100 crores in China alone if the momentum continues. This remarkable achievement would undoubtedly be a major milestone for both Vijay Sethupathi and the film’s makers.
