In a bold leap into historical and mythological cinema, Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films has announced Mahavatar, an epic retelling of the ancient legend of Chiranjeevi Parashurama. Directed by Amar Kaushik, known for his distinct narrative style in Stree and Bhediya, the film will star Vicky Kaushal in the iconic role of Parashurama. Slated for a Christmas 2026 release, Mahavatar marks Maddock Films’ debut in the mythology genre, shifting from their usual contemporary storytelling.

Parashurama, one of the seven eternal immortals in Hindu mythology, will be portrayed as a fierce warrior sage, symbolizing resilience, retribution, and penance. Known for his divine axe, Parashurama’s journey to uphold dharma and fight corruption will form the heart of the story. The film promises to be a visual spectacle with deep thematic layers, blending mythological elements with modern cinematic techniques to captivate global audiences.

The first look posters, released on November 13, highlight Vicky Kaushal as the eternal warrior. The caption on his post reads: “Dinesh Vijan brings to life the story of the eternal warrior of dharma! Vicky Kaushal stars as Chiranjeevi Parashurama in #Mahavatar, directed by Amar Kaushik. Coming to cinemas – Christmas 2026!”

The film will begin shooting in November 2025 and is expected to explore Parashurama’s quest to rid the world of corrupt rulers, balancing his roles as a sage and warrior. This project also marks Vicky Kaushal’s second collaboration with Maddock Films, following Chhaava. Fans can expect a deeply immersive experience in this mythological epic.
