Konda Surekha Biography:

Konda Surekha (born August 19, 1965) is an Indian politician currently serving as the Cabinet Minister for Forest, Environment, and Endowments in the Government of Telangana. She represents the Warangal East constituency in the Telangana Legislative Assembly. Previously, she served as the representative for the Shyampeta and Parakala constituencies. Surekha is a member of the Indian National Congress party.

Konda Surekha Early Life & Husband:

Konda Surekha was born in Warangal, India, to Thumma Chandramouli and Thumma Radha. She is married to Konda Murali.

Konda Surekha Political Career:

Konda Surekha began her political career in 1995 when she was elected as a Mandal Parishad member. In 1996, she was appointed as a PCC member, and by 1999, she was elected as the MLA from Shayampet. During the same period, she became the Congress Legislature Party Treasurer and served on the Women & Child Welfare Committee as well as the Health and Primary Education Standing Committee. In 2000, she was appointed as a member of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

Re-elected as an MLA from Shayampet in 2004, Surekha also became an official spokesperson for the Congress Party. In 2005, she was appointed Ex Officio Member of the Municipal Corporation. In 2009, she was elected as the MLA for Parkal and sworn in as the Minister for Women Development, Child Welfare, Disabled, and Juvenile Welfare in Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s cabinet.

After the death of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, she resigned from her ministerial post, citing dissatisfaction when Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy was not appointed Chief Minister, despite having majority support from MLAs. On July 4, 2011, she resigned from her MLA seat in support of Jaganmohan Reddy and later due to YSR’s name being mentioned in an FIR.

Surekha contested the by-elections on June 12, 2012, from the Parkal constituency as a candidate of the YSR Congress Party. However, in July 2013, she resigned from YSRCP, citing mistreatment by party members. Shortly before the 2014 general elections, she joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and successfully contested the Warangal East Assembly constituency, winning by a majority of 55,085 votes.

In 2018, Surekha and her husband left the TRS and joined the Indian National Congress (INC). On December 7, 2023, she took the oath as a cabinet minister in Telangana, and on December 9, 2024, she was assigned the portfolios of Environment and Forests, and Endowments in Revanth Reddy’s ministry.
