Mohanlal’s L2: Empuraan, was one of the most anticipated movies of Mollywood. It is the awaited sequel to Lucifer (2019). The movie is directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran.
It is a political, action drama which has all the elements in it.
Story-
The Present Kerala Chief Minister Jathin Ramdas (Tovino Thomas) decides to break his party . He is now aligning himself with Baba Bajrangi (Abhimanyu Singh), also known as Balaraj. His sister, Priyadarshini Ramdas (Manju Warrier), strongly opposes this move. Meanwhile, Khureshi Ab’raam, also known as Stephen Nedumpally (Mohanlal), returns to set things right. However, his other issues are his involvement in global affairs and his conflict with the drug cartel Kabooga. How is Balaraj connected to Zayed Masood (Prithviraj Sukumaran)? The film unravels these questions.
Plus points :
The film’s strongest parts are its visual appeal. It also has large-scale action sequences, and Mohanlal’s commanding screen presence.Mohanlal’s performance is great, and the character is nice, and the forest fight sequence in the second half is a definite highlight.
Manju Warrier also did justice with her role. The church fight sequence entertains people. The grand entry of the lead also excites.
Minus Points:
The overall story sometimes looks boring. The film focuses heavily on character. It should focus more on narrative. Murali Gopy’s writing falls short.
The slow pacing also makes it low. While Mohanlal’s presence makes it balanced. The story lacks depth which was present in the previous parts.
The multiple subplots contribute to confusion rather than intrigue and the film’s slow pace. It is coupled with these scattered storylines, makes it difficult for audiences to stay fully engaged. The transition from the pre-climax to the climax is also not upto the mark.
Technical Aspects:
Prithviraj Sukumaran’s direction is good.
Mohanlal, came at the expense of a strong and engaging narrative. The screenplay needed more refinement. The editing was good.
Verdict-
L2: Empuraan has stunning visuals and a few elevations. But the storyline does not have depth.Unless you are a die-hard Mohanlal fan, the experience may not fully satisfy you.
