Mohini Dey Biography:

Mohini Dey, born on July 20, 1996, is a renowned Indian bass guitarist hailing from Kolkata. She is widely recognized for her contributions to Gaan Bangla’s Wind of Change and Coke Studio India. Mohini also collaborates with the legendary composer A. R. Rahman.

Mohini Dey Family & Early Life:

Mohini Dey was born and raised in Mumbai. During her early years, her family faced financial challenges, as her father worked as a session musician. Recognizing her innate musical talent before she turned three, her father began nurturing her abilities. She received her first bass guitar at the age of nine or ten.

A musical prodigy, Mohini started performing at just 11 years old. Her extraordinary talent caught the attention of her father’s friend, Ranjit Barot, who invited her to join his band’s tours. She also had the privilege of being mentored by renowned jazz maestro Louis Banks.

Mohini Dey Career:

In August 2023, Mohini Dey released her self-titled debut album. She performs alongside her husband, Mark Hartsuch, in their band MaMoGi, which also features drummer Gino Banks. Over the years, Mohini has collaborated with several iconic artists, including Steve Vai, Marco Minnemann, Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater, Jason Richardson, Dewa Budjana, Zakir Hussain, Sivamani, A. R. Rahman, and Willow Smith.

In 2024, she received an invitation to join Willow Smith’s new band, marking another milestone in her illustrious career.

Mohini Dey Personal Life:

Mohini Dey is fluent in Marathi, Hindi, Bengali, and English. She was married to saxophonist Mark Hartsuch; however, in November 2024, the couple announced their divorce.
