Multiplex Association Issues Legal Notices to Indian 2 Team for Violating OTT Rules

Indian 2 was released on July 12th this year amidst high expectations, but it turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments in Indian cinema. Despite this, all agreements for the non-theatrical rights were secured before the release, with digital premieres for the Telugu and Tamil versions set for four weeks after the film’s release. However, the Multiplex Association of India has now issued legal notices to the Indian 2 team for violating OTT regulations.

For Hindi films, the Multiplex Association of India mandates an 8-week window before streaming on OTT platforms. The makers of Indian 2 disregarded this rule, streaming the Hindi version on OTT within six weeks. This breach could prevent the film from being screened in major cinema chains like Cinepolis and PVR Inox. Although the Indian 2 team initially agreed to the rule, they failed to adhere to it. The team has yet to respond to the legal notices.

Indian 2 is directed by Shankar and stars Kamal Haasan, Siddharth, and Rakul Preet Singh in lead roles. The film is produced by Lyca Productions and Red Giant Films.
