Vignesh Shivan, born on September 18, 1985, is a versatile Indian filmmaker known for his work in Tamil cinema. He has established himself as a film director, producer, screenwriter, actor, and lyricist, crafting films across a variety of genres.
Vignesh Shivan Personal Life:
Vignesh Shivan completed his schooling at Santhome Higher Secondary School in Mylapore, Chennai, and later attended Vanavani Matriculation Higher Secondary School. He began a relationship with actress Nayanthara in 2015 after collaborating on the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. The couple announced their engagement in 2021 and tied the knot on June 9, 2022, at the Sheraton Grand in Mahabalipuram. They welcomed twin boys via surrogacy on September 26, 2022.
Vignesh Shivan Career:
Vignesh Shivan began his filmmaking journey by collaborating with composer Dharan for his debut project. He presented the concept to producers Gemini Film Circuit and actor Silambarasan, both of whom agreed to turn it into a feature film titled Podaa Podi (2012). Jointly produced by Shanaya Telefilms, the film gained attention with posters released in June 2008. Shivan and Silambarasan also traveled to Canada, scouting locations and securing a deal with Mayor Ron Stevens to film in Orillia and Toronto. However, the project faced prolonged delays, languishing in production for nearly four years before its release in October 2012, where it received mixed reviews.
Following this, Shivan stayed active in the industry, contributing as a lyricist, directing independent music videos, and making a cameo appearance as an engineer in Velaiyilla Pattathari (2014) alongside Dhanush.
His second directorial, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (2015), faced multiple changes in cast and production houses before finalizing Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara as the lead actors, with Dhanush producing the film.
For his third film, Thaanaa Serndha Koottam (2018), Shivan collaborated with Suriya and Keerthy Suresh, while Anirudh Ravichander composed the music.
In 2021, Shivan and Nayanthara co-founded Rowdy Pictures, a production house that released critically acclaimed films such as Pebbles and Rocky.
