Netflix is reportedly pushing for the release of Vidaamuyarchi on Pongal. Tamil superstar Ajith is currently working on two films: Vidaamuyarchi, directed by Magizh Thirumeni, and Good Bad Ugly, directed by Adhik Ravichandran. Initially, there was speculation that Good Bad Ugly would release during Pongal, while Vidaamuyarchi would be postponed to the summer. However, the recent teaser release for Vidaamuyarchi and the official announcement of its Pongal release created confusion.
The main reason behind this sudden shift is said to be Netflix’s involvement. The OTT platform reportedly purchased the film’s streaming rights for a substantial price, and according to the agreement, Netflix is pressuring the makers to stick to the Pongal release date. In the current landscape, OTT platforms are playing a significant role in determining movie release schedules, with many deals being dependent on specific dates. If the movie doesn’t release as agreed, there are reports suggesting that Netflix could cancel the deal.
Currently, one filming schedule for Vidaamuyarchi remains to be completed, with the team planning to finish it by mid-December. Ajith is also said to prefer releasing Vidaamuyarchi first before Good Bad Ugly, aligning with the OTT deal’s requirements.
