Nivetha Thomas, born on November 2, 1995, is an Indian actress known for her work in Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu films. She began her acting career as a child artist in the 2008 Malayalam film Veruthe Oru Bharya, earning the Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist for her performance.
Nivetha made her debut in Telugu cinema with the film Gentleman (2016), for which she won the SIIMA Award for Best Female Debut – Telugu. Over the years, she has starred in several successful films, including Chaappa Kurishu (2011), Romans (2013), Jilla (2014), Papanasam (2015), Ninnu Kori (2017), Jai Lava Kusa (2017), 118 (2019), Brochevarevarura (2019), V (2020), Vakeel Saab (2021), and Saakini Daakini (2022). Nivetha has also received two Filmfare Award nominations for Best Actress – Telugu for her roles in Gentleman and Ninnu Kori.

Nivetha Thomas was born on November 2, 1995, in Madras (now Chennai), India. Her family hails from Edoor village in the Iritty taluk of Kerala. She completed her schooling at Holy Angels and Montfort Matriculation School in Chennai before pursuing a Bachelor of Architecture degree from SRM University. Nivetha is multilingual and fluent in six languages: Malayalam, Tamil, French, Hindi, Telugu, and English.
Nivetha Thomas Career:
Nivetha Thomas began her acting career as a child artist, appearing in the popular Sun TV serial My Dear Bootham. She gained recognition with her role as Jayaram’s daughter in the Malayalam film Veruthe Oru Bharya, where her performance received widespread appreciation. Following this, she took on supporting roles in several Tamil and Malayalam films. Among her notable Malayalam projects were Chaappa Kurishu and Thattathin Marayathu, the latter of which was predicted by Sify to become “the biggest box-office hit in the history of Malayalam cinema.” In the 2011 Tamil film Poraali, directed by Samuthirakani, she portrayed Tamizhselvi, a petrol bunk employee, having previously worked with Samuthirakani in the drama series Arasi.
In 2013, Nivetha starred in the Malayalam film Romans, which was a major success and labeled a “blockbuster” by Sify.com. She then took on the lead role of Jaishree, an aspiring singer, in the Tamil fantasy comedy Naveena Saraswathi Sabatham. In the film Jilla, she played Mahalakshmi, a character deeply attached to her father (played by Mohanlal) and her two brothers (played by Vijay and Mahath). Nivetha described her role as more than just another sister role, but that of a “strong-willed girl who influences her brother in a positive way.” She then signed her first Telugu film, Juliet Lover of Idiot, directed by Ajay Vodhirala. Nivetha also portrayed Kamal Haasan’s eldest daughter in the Tamil remake of Drishyam, titled Papanasam, earning praise for her performance.
2016-18: Telugu Debut and Success:
Nivetha made her Telugu cinema debut in 2016 with the action-thriller Gentleman, opposite Nani. Her performance received critical acclaim from both audiences and critics, earning her several awards, including the SIIMA Award for Best Female Debut (Telugu) at the 6th South Indian International Movie Awards, and a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Actress – Telugu at the 64th Filmfare Awards South. This film significantly boosted her popularity in Telugu cinema.
Her first release in 2017 was another Telugu film, Ninnu Kori, again opposite Nani. The romantic entertainer received positive reviews, and Nivetha’s portrayal of Pallavi was highly praised, leading to her second Filmfare Award nomination for Best Actress – Telugu at the 65th Filmfare Awards South. Her next film, Jai Lava Kusa, opposite Jr. NTR, was one of the highest-grossing movies of 2017. However, her final release of the year, Juliet Lover of Idiot, opposite Naveen Chandra, was delayed and ultimately became a commercial failure. In October 2018, Nivetha signed on to the romantic drama Swaasa, co-starring Nikhil Siddharth.
2019: Comeback
Nivetha’s first release in 2019 was the action thriller 118, opposite Nandamuri Kalyan Ram. The film received positive reviews, with critics particularly praising Nivetha’s outstanding performance in a brief yet impactful role. She followed this with the black comedy film Brochevarevarura, opposite Sree Vishnu. The film opened to positive reviews, and Nivetha received widespread acclaim for her portrayal of Mitra, an underperforming student in academics who aspires to become a classical dancer. The film was a hit at the box office.
In 2020, Nivetha starred in Darbar, playing the daughter of Rajinikanth’s character. She also appeared in the action thriller V, directed by Indraganti. In 2021, Nivetha featured in Vakeel Saab, the Telugu remake of the Hindi film Pink, starring Pawan Kalyan.
Nivetha also starred alongside Regina Cassandra in Saakini Daakini, directed by Sudheer Varma. The film is a Telugu remake of the Korean movie Midnight Runners.
