Popular South Indian actress Oviya Helen has filed a formal complaint with the Chennai Police, addressing the circulation of fake “leaked private” videos that were widely shared on social media. The morphed videos, allegedly intended to defame her, surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) and quickly gained attention. Oviya’s manager confirmed the actress’s decision to pursue legal action to stop the spread of these false claims.
According to a report from Times of India (TOI), Oviya named a person called Thariq in her complaint. Thariq, once a friend of the actress, allegedly orchestrated the leak as an act of revenge after Oviya distanced herself from him due to his inappropriate behavior. The complaint further claims that Thariq holds morphed videos and images of other women as well, highlighting a broader issue of cyber harassment.
Although Oviya has not issued an official statement regarding this controversy, she has previously responded strongly to cyberbullies on Instagram, where she received derogatory comments. Known for her stint on Bigg Boss Tamil, Oviya has faced public scrutiny before, but this incident has sparked outrage among her fans and supporters.
The controversy began when a purported video surfaced on X, with some users falsely claiming that the woman in the video was Oviya, pointing to a similar shoulder tattoo. However, many others have dismissed the video as a deepfake. As of now, The Week could not independently verify the authenticity of the footage.
