Liger, starring Vijay Deverakonda and directed by Puri Jagannadh, turned out to be a major box office disappointment. Despite being projected as a Pan India blockbuster, the film underperformed significantly. This setback has had a substantial impact on its director, Puri Jagannadh, whose current project, Double Ismart, is slated for release on August 15th.
Distributors and exhibitors, who suffered losses from Liger, have been demanding compensation, now quoted at 6 crores. Although Puri initially agreed to provide some compensation, he later reneged on his promise, sparking anger among the affected parties, leading them to go on strike. Despite the protests, Puri did not address the issue, but with the upcoming release of Double Ismart, he now faces pressure to resolve the situation.
It has been reported that Puri has agreed to pay around 6 crores to settle the Liger controversy, allowing Double Ismart to move forward without further obstacles. The film’s theatrical rights have been acquired by Prime Show Entertainments for 54 crores, a reasonable deal. However, given Puri’s recent track record, there are doubts about the film’s potential to reach the 100 crore mark, especially with competition from Mr. Bachchan. Only time will tell how the film fares.
