Pushpa 2: The Rule experienced a significant surge in box office collections on New Year’s Eve, earning Rs 7.65 crore, according to early estimates by Sacnilk. The Allu Arjun-starrer saw an occupancy rate of 15.51% in its Telugu version with over 600 shows across India. The Hindi version performed even better, with an occupancy of 19.15% from about 3000 shows.
The earnings breakdown for Pushpa 2 on Day 27 is as follows:
The film’s performance significantly outpaced Varun Dhawan’s Baby John, which was released around Christmas. Pushpa 2 is expected to cross the Rs 1800 crore milestone globally in the coming weeks, as it faces little to no competition.
Having released on December 5 with preview screenings on December 4, the film’s current 25-day global gross stands at Rs 1760 crore. It has already surpassed the record of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (Rs 1760 crore) and is now just Rs 300 crore shy of beating Dangal’s lifetime earnings of Rs 2070.3 crore. If it surpasses this figure, Pushpa 2 will become the highest-grossing Indian film of all time.
The box office numbers have been further boosted by a hike in ticket prices across Telangana until December 23, with the film now running at standard prices across India. The film’s success has sparked controversy, with some industry figures accusing the makers of monopolising multiplexes and criticizing the price hikes. Filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane and others have raised concerns about this issue in recent discussions.
