Ratan Tata, the iconic former Chairman of Tata Sons, passed away at the age of 86 in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on Thursday, October 9, 2024. The renowned industrialist and philanthropist had been admitted after a sudden drop in blood pressure, later being shifted to the ICU due to worsening health conditions. Despite previous assurances on social media about his well-being, Tata breathed his last, marking the end of an era.
Harsh Goenka confirmed the news on Twitter, paying tribute with the words, “The clock has stopped ticking. The Titan passes away. #RatanTata was a beacon of integrity, ethical leadership, and philanthropy, leaving an indelible mark on the world of business and beyond.”
Just two days before his passing, Tata had addressed concerns regarding his health as “rumors” and informed his followers that he was undergoing routine check-ups for age-related medical conditions, assuring the public that there was no reason to worry.
Earlier, reports emerged that Tata had been suffering from low blood pressure. Experts explained that sudden drops in blood pressure, like the one Tata experienced, can occur due to conditions like orthostatic hypotension or dehydration. Some medications for heart conditions and blood pressure management can also contribute to this condition, causing significant health concerns.
Ratan Tata’s leadership has left a lasting impact on both the Tata Group and the Indian business landscape. Serving as chairman of Tata Sons from 1991 until his retirement in 2012, Tata expanded the group’s influence into telecommunications with the founding of Tata Teleservices in 1996 and took Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) public in 2004, solidifying the conglomerate’s presence in the IT sector.
His contributions to business and philanthropy have made him a beloved figure across India, and his legacy will continue to inspire millions.
