Republic Day 2025: Is India Celebrating Its 76th or 77th Republic Day?

As January 26, 2025, approaches, India is gearing up for a grand celebration of Republic Day. The highlight of the festivities will be the Republic Day Parade, held on the historic Kartavya Path near India Gate in New Delhi.

The parade, extending from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate, will feature impressive contingents from the Indian Armed Forces and paramilitary forces. In addition, vibrant tableaux from various states will showcase India’s rich cultural heritage, bringing the nation’s diverse traditions and achievements to the forefront.

Republic Day is celebrated annually to commemorate the adoption of the Indian Constitution on January 26, 1950, when India became a democratic republic. The first Republic Day was celebrated in 1951, and this year marks 75 years since the adoption of the Constitution.

In 2025, India will celebrate its 76th Republic Day with the theme ‘Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas’ (Golden India: Heritage and Progress). This theme highlights the nation’s blend of rich heritage and its continuous journey of progress and development.

Tableaux from 15 states and union territories, including Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chandigarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh, will be featured in the parade, along with 11 central government contingents.

Additionally, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will be the chief guest for the Republic Day celebrations, marking an important diplomatic moment for India.
