His cricket journey began at the tender age of 5, wielding a plastic bat, and he often frequented the Hindustan Zinc grounds to observe senior players in action. Supported by his father, who made the bold decision to resign from his job upon being transferred to Udaipur, Nitish received encouragement to pursue his cricketing dreams. Under the guidance of coaches Kumara Swamy, Krishna Rao, and Watekar, he attended VDCA camps and honed his skills.
Reflecting on his father’s pivotal decision, Nitish expressed, “I was 12 or 13 when my dad quit his job. He was transferred to Udaipur. He analyzed the cricket there and was afraid of the politics that might affect my game. He quit his job and dedicated his time to my game. Relatives questioned his decisions. He is the first person who believed in me.”
Nitish’s talent caught the eye of former Indian cricketer and selector MSK Prasad during Under-12 and Under-14 matches, leading to his selection for training at the ACA academy in Kadapa, under the tutelage of Madhusudhana Reddy and Srinivasa Rao.
He achieved remarkable success in the 2017-18 Vijay Merchant Trophy, notably scoring 441 runs against Nagaland, including a quadruple century in just 345 deliveries. Nitish amassed a total of 1237 runs at an outstanding average of 176.41, setting a tournament record. Additionally, he claimed 26 wickets during the tournament. These exceptional performances earned him the prestigious BCCI ‘Best Cricketer in the Under-16’ Jagmohan Dalmiya award for the 2017–2018 season, making him the first player from the Andhra Cricket Association to receive this honor.
