Suriya’s Kanguva: Box Office Failure Sparks Controversy and Co-Producer’s Shocking Claims

Suriya’s highly anticipated PAN-Indian film Kanguva unfortunately failed to meet expectations at the box office, leaving its investors with significant losses. Directed by Siruthai Siva, the film’s content received criticism for falling short of audience and critic expectations. Post-release, Suriya and the film’s team faced backlash, with the criticism now extending to social media conversations sparked by co-producer Dhananjeyan’s remarks.

Dhananjeyan’s Viral Comments

In a statement that has stirred controversy, Dhananjeyan highlighted the challenges faced by Suriya, pointing to targeted negativity from fan groups and political factions.

“Back in 2014, I noted how two fandoms seemed intent on hindering Suriya’s growth. It’s unfortunate that even now, these groups continue spreading negativity, and now, two political parties have joined in,” Dhananjeyan said. He further explained, “Whenever I tweet about Suriya or Kanguva, I am met with a barrage of negative comments and trolls from these fandoms.”

The Root of the Hate

Dhananjeyan also mentioned a particular group showing extreme hostility. Without naming them, he stated, “One fandom seems to harbor an intense dislike for Suriya. Even philosophical posts I make attract trolls using that hero’s image as their profile picture. These two heroes hold untouchable positions in the industry, but Suriya has his own respected standing too. I cannot fathom why this hatred persists.”

He connected part of the negativity to Suriya’s past comments on NEET and education policies, which may have displeased certain political parties. “It appears those remarks didn’t sit well with them, leading to targeted criticism of both Suriya and the film,” Dhananjeyan concluded.

The Fallout of Kanguva

Despite the film’s grand scale and Suriya’s stellar reputation, Kanguva failed to resonate with audiences, raising questions about the balance between expectations and delivery. The ongoing social media debates only add fuel to the fire, bringing attention to the challenges faced by stars in maintaining their reputation amid polarizing opinions.
