Tamil Blockbuster Fails to Impress in Telugu Release

Vishal’s long-delayed film Madha Gaja Raja has finally hit the big screens during Pongal 2025, marking the end of its 12-year wait. Directed by Sundar C, the film benefited from the underperformance of Ram Charan’s Game Changer and the lack of major releases in Kollywood, helping it gross over ₹50 crore at the Tamil Nadu box office.

Riding on its Tamil success, the makers released the Telugu dubbed version, but the film failed to create an impact. Madha Gaja Raja opened to poor occupancies across Telugu states, including in key revenue-generating areas like Uttarandhra. Meanwhile, Venky’s Sankranthiki Vasthunam remained the top choice for audiences during the festive season.

Vishal’s declining market in Telugu states is evident, as the film struggled to draw crowds. Unlike its reception in Tamil Nadu, the Telugu version received mixed to negative reviews from critics, further dampening its box office prospects. Additionally, the lack of aggressive promotions contributed to the weak openings.

The film stars Anjali and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar as the female leads, while comedian Santhanam plays a crucial role. Despite its comedy-driven narrative, Madha Gaja Raja failed to generate buzz among Telugu audiences, making its box office run uncertain.
