Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced yesterday that the main road in Nungambakkam Kamdar Nagar, Chennai, where legendary playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam once resided, will be renamed as ‘SP Balasubrahmanyam Road’ in his honor. The renaming marks the fourth death anniversary of the beloved singer.
SP Balasubrahmanyam, a Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan awardee, captivated millions with his melodious voice, singing over 40,000 songs across various languages. His contributions to the music industry, as a playback singer, composer, and actor, left an indelible mark on Indian cinema for more than 50 years. Known as a favorite of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, SPB’s legacy continues to resonate even after his passing.
SPB’s son, SP Charan, expressed gratitude to the Tamil Nadu government for this heartfelt tribute. SP Balasubrahmanyam passed away on September 25, 2020, due to COVID-19 complications, leaving behind countless grieving fans.
