Suriya’s Kanguva was released with sky-high expectations in both Tamil and Telugu markets. Given Suriya’s strong fanbase in the Telugu states and the film’s grand period action setting, Telugu distributors acquired the rights for a hefty price. However, due to its weak content, Kanguva failed to perform at the box office, resulting in significant losses for distributors.
Now, all eyes are on this week’s release, Dragon, starring Love Today sensation Pradeep Ranganathan. Interestingly, the same set of Telugu distributors who invested in Kanguva are backing Dragon, making it a crucial film for them. If Dragon strikes gold at the box office, it could help offset the losses incurred from Kanguva.
To maximize its reach, the makers of Dragon have actively promoted the film in Telugu states, even organizing a grand pre-release event on Sunday with the entire team. The film features Anupama Parameswaran and Kayadu Lohar in key roles, adding to its appeal. Given Pradeep Ranganathan’s previous blockbuster Love Today and Anupama’s popularity, expectations are high. If the film receives positive word-of-mouth, the distributors might finally see a turnaround in fortunes.
