The Telugu dubbing rights for Amaran, the highly anticipated Tamil film starring Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi, have been sold for an impressive Rs 5 crore—a record for a Sivakarthikeyan film in the Telugu market. According to a distributor, the film’s strong storyline and the star’s growing regional fan base justified the investment. Amaran narrates the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan, who leads his team against terrorist threats in Kashmir, ultimately sacrificing his life in the line of duty during a counter-terrorism mission in Shopian.
Produced by Kamal Haasan, Amaran has already generated considerable excitement in the Telugu states. Despite the lukewarm response to Sivakarthikeyan’s recent releases Prince and Maaveeran in this region, the investment reflects renewed confidence in Tamil stars. Tamil superstars like Rajinikanth, Vijay, Suriya, and Karthi have consistently drawn Telugu audiences, leading to high demand for dubbed rights, often reaching sums between Rs 10 and 25 crore. Other notable actors like Vijay Sethupathi and Dhanush have also seen successful Telugu releases with films like Maharaja and Rayan, signaling a robust market for Tamil cinema in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
