Following the release of Thandel, Telugu audiences have had limited options at the box office. While Mazaka generated buzz, mixed reviews led many to wait for its OTT release rather than heading to theatres. The only exception has been Dragon, which has captivated youth audiences, including its Telugu-dubbed version, drawing impressive footfalls.
However, aside from Dragon, no other recent release has managed to leave a lasting impact. The dry spell seems likely to extend into the first week of March, with no major direct Telugu releases in sight. Instead, March 7th will see the arrival of three dubbed films, hoping to fill the void.
One of the most anticipated releases is Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal. The film was a blockbuster in Hindi, marking the biggest success of the actor’s career. Given the film’s strong reception in the Telugu states, Geetha Arts has taken charge of its Telugu release. Whether it replicates its Hindi success remains to be seen.
Another film set for release is Kingston, a Tamil thriller generating solid pre-release buzz. Directed by Kamal Prakash, the film features GV Prakash and Divya Bharathi in lead roles. With its unique concept and innovative promotions, it has piqued curiosity among moviegoers.
Meanwhile, Malayalam cinema has had a strong start to the year. Asif Ali’s Rekhachithram emerged as a major box office success, with audiences eagerly awaiting its OTT debut. Another surprise hit has been Kunchacko Boban’s Officer on Duty, which has gained momentum as a sleeper hit. The Telugu-dubbed version of the film is slated for release this week.
With no big Telugu titles in sight, these dubbed films will be vying for audience attention. It remains to be seen which of them will strike gold at the box office. Stay tuned for more updates!
