Over the past few months, the Tollywood trade has grappled with challenging times, primarily due to the absence of big-budget movies featuring top stars. Compounding the issue, the concurrent IPL season and the fervor of general elections have taken a toll on the performance of small and medium budget films released recently.
In a disheartening development, numerous single-screen exhibitors in Telangana have made the difficult decision to close their theaters temporarily to mitigate their losses. Commencing from Friday, May 17, the majority of single screens across Telangana will remain shuttered for a span of 10 days, with hopes of reopening when circumstances improve in June.
While a few re-releases of classic films featuring top Tollywood stars saw moderate success over a weekend, the earnings fell short of covering expenses significantly.
