Tollywood kicked off the year with promising Sankranti releases, including “Hanuman,” “Guntur Kaaram,” “Naa Saami Ranga,” and “Saindhav.” While “Hanuman” soared as a sensational blockbuster and “Guntur Kaaram” found favor with Andhra Pradesh audiences, “Naa Saami Ranga” broke even for buyers, and “Saindhav” struggled as a flop, marking a mixed Sankranti for buyers.
However, February proved disastrous for both buyers and audiences alike, with numerous small and medium budget films failing to garner decent collections after the first weekend. Notable releases like “Eagle,” “Ambajipeta Marriage Band,” “Yatra 2,” and “Only Ooru Peru Bhairavakona” failed to make a significant impact at the box office, despite some modest success for the latter.
Among the smaller budget releases, only “Ooru Peru Bhairavakona” managed to achieve average to above-average status, while others faced substantial losses. With hopes pinned on March releases for relief, upcoming films like “Operation Valentaine,” “Chari 111,” “Vyooham,” “Bhimaa,” “Gaami,” “Premalu” (Telugu dub), “Om Bheem Bush,” and “Tillu Square” are anticipated to breathe new life into the box office scene.
