Mega Prince Varun Tej is set to make his debut in a PAN Indian film with Matka, a period action drama directed by Karuna Kumar, known for Palasa 1978. The film, produced by Dr. Vijender Reddy Teegala and Rajani Thalluri on a grand scale, kicked off its promotional campaign today with the unveiling of its teaser in Vijayawada.
Matka chronicles the transformation of a young gambler into a powerful underworld kingpin, navigating the treacherous landscape from the 1950s to the 1980s. The teaser begins with a thought-provoking dialogue from Ravi Shankar, highlighting the disparity in wealth distribution in the country and the struggles of the majority against each other for the remaining resources.
One of the standout features of the teaser is Varun Tej’s impressive portrayal of multiple characters throughout different stages of his life. He convincingly embodies a young, middle-aged, and older version of his character, Vasu, demonstrating remarkable versatility as he adapts to various looks over the decades covered in the film.
The narrative depicts Vasu’s relentless ambition to dominate the underworld, fitting into the trend of protagonists with morally ambiguous traits. Another highlight is the exceptional production design, which effectively recreates the essence of the bygone era through intricate sets.
In the film, Meenakshi Chaudhary plays Varun’s wife, while Nora Fatehi has been cast in a pivotal role. The teaser successfully piques interest and exudes positive energy.
Joining the cast are Naveen Chandra, Ajay Ghosh, Kannada Kishore, Ravindra Vijay, and P. Ravi Shankar, who will portray significant characters. G.V. Prakash Kumar is handling the music composition. Matka is scheduled for release on November 14 in various Indian languages.
