Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan, released with a strong festival advantage, initially saw decent box office performance. However, the film struggled to maintain momentum beyond its first weekend, ultimately facing a sharp decline. With a worldwide closing collection of ₹247 crores, Vettaiyan fell short of its pre-release business valuation of ₹325 crores, recovering only 76% of the expected amount and earning a “flop” status.
Area-wise collections show Vettaiyan performed best in Tamil Nadu with ₹100 crores, followed by the overseas market at ₹80 crores, while Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh/Telangana, and Kerala contributed ₹22 crores, ₹21 crores, and ₹17 crores, respectively. Rajinikanth’s star power and Anirudh’s captivating background music were highlights, though they couldn’t fully compensate for the film’s mixed reviews.
In response, Rajinikanth has reportedly agreed to collaborate with Lyca Productions again, potentially working with director Venkat Prabhu, in an effort to mitigate recent box office setbacks in their partnership.
