Vidaamuyarchi Box Office Day 5: Ajith Kumar’s Film Sees Monday Dip, Totals ₹65 Crore

Ajith Kumar and Trisha Krishnan’s action thriller Vidaamuyarchi, directed by Magizh Thirumeni, debuted in cinemas on Thursday. Inspired by the 1997 Hollywood film Breakdown, the movie opened to a strong ₹26 crore on Day 1, accumulating ₹65 crore net in India over its first five days. However, as expected, it witnessed a steep drop on Monday, collecting just ₹3 crore. The weekend earnings stood at ₹10 crore, ₹13 crore, and ₹12 crore on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, respectively.

The Tamil film recorded a 17.11% occupancy on Monday (February 10, 2025). While its worldwide earnings reached ₹92 crore by Day 3, the production house, Lyca Productions, has yet to provide updated figures. The film also performed decently overseas, collecting $800,000 at the North American box office.

Vidaamuyarchi: A High-Stakes Thriller

The movie revolves around a man’s desperate mission to rescue his kidnapped wife from a dangerous group in Azerbaijan. Originally scheduled for a Pongal release, production delays pushed it to a later date. The film finally hit the big screens after Ajith Kumar wrapped up shooting and shifted his focus to his racing career.

Critical Reception and Audience Response

Vidaamuyarchi received a mixed response from both critics and audiences. The Hindustan Times noted that unlike Ajith’s usual mass-action roles, the film takes a different approach, portraying him as an ordinary man driven by love and determination.

With collections declining post-weekend, the coming days will be crucial in determining the film’s overall success.

Ajith Kumar (53) is one of South India’s biggest stars, known for over 60 films, including Aasai, Kadhal Kottai, Citizen, Villain, Varalaru, and Billa. Vidaamuyarchi also features Trisha, Arjun Sarja, and Regina Cassandra, while Trisha is also part of the upcoming film Good Bad Ugly.
