Vijay Sethupathi was born in Rajapalayam, a town in the Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu, India. Despite coming from a non-film background and having no relatives in the industry, he had a normal upbringing. Growing up in Rajapalayam, he developed a love for movies, although his family had no connections to the film industry. His education journey took him until the sixth grade in Rajapalayam, after which his family moved to Chennai.

Nevertheless, Vijay remained persistent, waiting for the right opportunity. In the initial phase, he faced rejection in auditions, being told that his acting skills were weak. Yet, he never gave up on his dream, and eventually, he found his breakthrough in the film industry.
