Vijay’s latest film, The GOAT, has made an impressive start in Tamil Nadu but has struggled in the Telugu states. After a decent opening day, the film has underperformed and has been pulled from several theaters.
With a pre-release business of nearly ₹15 crores in the Telugu states, the film has failed to recover even half of that amount. Reports suggest that distributors in the Telugu market are facing significant losses, estimated to exceed ₹5 crores.
Despite a wide release, The GOAT has been declared a major flop in the region. Director Venkat Prabhu attributed the film’s failure to the inclusion of references to the CSK cricket team, though this explanation hasn’t done much to change its fortunes. The film is facing a similar situation in Karnataka as well, and it remains to be seen if it can improve in the coming days.
