Gopichand, director Sreenu Vaitla, and People’s Media had high hopes for their latest release, Viswam, believing it would signal a significant comeback for all involved. However, since its theatrical release on October 11, 2024, the film has faced a disastrous run at the box office, managing to collect less than 5 crore share worldwide in its first five days. Despite receiving slightly better word of mouth compared to Sreenu Vaitla’s recent works, the underperformance has left industry insiders disappointed.
Gopichand has been struggling to regain his footing following a string of failures. With previous films like Bhima, Ramabanam, and Seetimaarr also performing poorly, Viswam was crucial for him to bounce back. Similarly, for Sreenu Vaitla, this film was an important attempt to revive his directorial career, following a series of box office disappointments such as Amar Akbar Anthony and Mister.
Unfortunately, Viswam lacked the necessary hype for a strong opening. Competing against highly anticipated films like Devara and Vettaiyan, which dominated audience preferences, Viswam ended up in third place in terms of viewership. The combination of tough competition and a lackluster promotional campaign ultimately contributed to its failure, marking another setback for the Gopichand-Sreenu Vaitla partnership.
